I'm so sad he's gone. I only had a few occasions to spend social time with Jacobus, but I was always struck by his dignity and grace. He was such an amicable, humble person. I couldn't imagine he had a mean bone in his body. I will miss him and remember him. He mattered.

Koob - I miss you my old friend. I will always remember you in happier times at boarding school and varsity spending long days in the African summer sun with good friends. I hope you are at peace now. Our thoughts and prayers are with your family at this sad time.

Jacobus was a big man with a gentle soul and quick smile. Beneath the gentleness was a quiet and very present strength and a deep love for his family--especially his wonderful children. His legal skills were superb, which made me proud to call him a colleague. His humanity and innate kindness made me proud to call him a friend and fellow human being. I extend my most heartfelt sympathies to his family. He will be missed by his colleagues. Ben Dinkins

SORROW
We cried and wept, and wept and cried
We felt the light within us die -
The hole where our hearts lay was raw inside -
Dear Lord above, we ask you why?
On the floor our hearts lie in pieces crushed,
All stands still, all is hushed.
In the half light, half shade of the night -
Tears are shed, there is no respite.
Soft moaning noises our throats escape,
Who can we find to heal the ache?
No spring in our step or sparkle to eye,
No song of joy just we question why?
The hole in our hearts has bled and bled,
Our souls lie trampled in the ashes instead.
No song of the bird, no swim of the swan -
What has happened? What has gone wrong?
The sun comes up, the sun goes down,
Like puppets we try to forget and move on,
But the cup that is given is a bitter one,
Dear Lord we pray, make us strong.

Our precious son, the best father, friend, brother, uncle, all attest to your gentleness, kindness and love for life. We were a unit, we will never be whole again. Taken from us so suddenly, we love you and just know where you are now, there is peace. And we would choose you, in a hundred lifetimes, in a hundred worlds, in any version of reality, we would find you and we would choose you! Heartbroken, Mom, Pa and family x x x
