Condolence & Memory Journal

"Death leaves a heartache that no one can heal, love leaves memories that no one can steal." It is good to know that death is not the end. The Creator, has promised that our precious dear ones will have the opportunity to live again, in paradise. Psalm 37:29 tells us: "The righteous themselves will possess the earth, and they will reside forever upon it." So we look forward to seeing John again in paradise. In the meantime we will draw closer to our Creator and his son Jesus Christ in prayer, and the Bible promises that "he himself will sustain you." Psalm 55:22

Sincerely,
La Chelle Yates

I had the pleasure of working with Mr. Bowden at DEQ for 20 years. He was a hard working, loyal and caring manager. I am sorry of his unexpected passing and extend my condolences to his family and friends. May he rest in peace.

We worked with John several years ago at DEQ. He was a good and caring man and we considered him a friend as well as a supervisor and co-worker. We know how much he loved his family and wish to extend our deepest sympathy.

I met Mr. Bowden several times when he would come down to visit Erica. He was such a nice man and I could always tell how proud he was of Erica and her kids. I know he will be missed so much.

John and I came to work together under difficult circumstances, but I came to appreciate his no-nonsense, old-school approach to leadership and problem-solving. He cared deeply for his family and friends, and was loyal to his staff. Simply put, he was a good man, and he will be sorely missed.

Life Stories

John hired me in 1990 as a compliance officer with at the time was called the Air Pollution Control Board for the Commonwealth of Virginia and is now known as DEQ. I am still working for DEQ 22+ years later. I owe a lot to John. I remember once when I had made a mistake and John said that's okay. The only ones that don't make mistakes are the ones that aren't doing anything. John hired a bunch of good people over the years of which many are still working for DEQ. I will miss him as will so many others. You are in good hands now John.
